Location Castello d’Angiò is located on a rocky spur, near a small village halfway between Isernia (19 km) and Campobasso (38 km). Description of buildings The present polygonal-shaped structure is the same as it was in the XVI century, though it preserves the features of a medieval fortress with the addition of three round-shaped donjons of Angevin-Aragonese style. At the beginning of the 19th century, Centomani family converted the fortress into a luxury baronial mansion: moats were filled in, towers lawered and deprived of the merlons; the court, the torture rooms and trapdoors were bricked up. The main entrance, which breaks the continuity of the perimeter fence, gives access to the internal courtyard overlooked by the ground floor rooms (the former cellar, storage, stable etc….), which cover a total area of 256 net sqm. On the left-hand wing a staircase gives access to the 411 sqm noble floor hosting the living/sitting-room. Condition The imposing mass of the castle, the cobblestone-paved courtyard, the squared-quoin main entrance and the ancient stone staircase leading to the first floor are only some of the original features which keep the historic charme of this property and its location alive. The interior features both cotto and grit floors with decorations which characterize several rooms and fine wooden doors. The property features solid walls and general good condition. Overall repairs of the interior finishings and the installation of suitable facilities and plants are required. Outdoor space The property features a terracing area in front of the main entrance boasting breahtaking views of the valley and a characteristic inner courtyard around which the whole complex develops. Usage and potential The features of the Longobardic fortress together with the Aragonese style alterations make of Castello d'Angiò an exclusive and unique period property which is adaptable to different uses: private dwelling, location for meeting and conventions or for accomodation.
