La Bougainville is ideally set among its own vineyards and olive groves with exceptional views over rolling green countryside toward the Mediterranean sea. The fifth bedroom, with deep red terracottoa floor and wooden ceiling, is a separate unit, joined to the house outside the kitchen door. The drive opens out near the house into a large patio, from where one can accede to the back door, or pass under the shady vine-covered arbour to the front door. Large terracotta pots placed round the patio are filled with bougainvillea, jasmine and other climbing plants. The house offers a beautiful and peaceful setting for a family home with the nearest railway station only 1 mile away for easy commuting. There is ample parking at the station and there is no charge. The railway line takes you into Rome’s main station, Termini. The situation of the house, in the Alban Hills, just 22 miles south of Rome has made it very popular with tourists. The villa is also near to two volcanic lakes, the town of Castelgandolfo where the Pope has his summer residence, and many other medieval hilltop villages including Frascati and the pre-Roman town of Lanuvio which is only 5 minutes drive away. The sea is only half-an-hour’s drive away, and Anzio is within easy reach. The fountains of Villa d’Este and Hadrian’s Villa at Tivoli are also less than an hour away. The Alban Hills area is famous for its wine and for its many restaurants.
