Full Description

Location Small stone houses and ancient mansions all around the hill, at the foot of the peak, where the top of the bell-tower stands out. It’s Trevi, one of the most beautiful and typical hamlets in Umbria, risen on the olive-tree hills at the foot of the mountains between Spoleto and Perugia, overlooking the whole valley and the old path; a little town offering any kind of services: the square, the theatre, the gardens. The property sits in the historical heart of Trevi, close to the main square. The dual-carriage way, reachable in less than five minutes drive, connects easily to Foligno (10 km), Spoleto (15 km), Assisi (24 Km). Description of buildings The religious property, today turned into a charming private dwelling, was originally the site of the Philippine Fathers Congregation and dates back to 1643, when Don Giovanni Antonio Costa wanted it to be built in the area of his possession. Maybe in the old times the town fortress stood here, as some marks are present in the basements of the Church. The trapezoid shape of the structure shows the necessity of an arrangement of the pre-existing urban structure of the town; the small church had to be located in the area of the historical centre of Trevi, in a very interesting area for the urban history. The recent restoration has in some way brought the Church back to its originary purpose, as in the report of the Ministero dei Beni Culturali it is supposed that the building was born directly as a living dwelling and that it was later fitted to a religious use, as witnessed by the west immured door, the half-circular staircase still connecting the three levels and the roof features. The dwelling covers three storeys and a downstairs floor for a total surface of about 200 sqm (net) in addition to a terrace of 10 sqm. The entrance, facing the small square, leads to the ground floor, grandiose and unique as to the volume of the original nave, turned into a sitting-room, which rises continually for three floors and finally reaches the vault. The eighteenth century decoration of the columns which once dominated the main altar, today frames the fire-place at the centre of the wall, while on the opposite the two above levels come directly forward the living area as two large terraces. The kitchen sits some stairs lower and it is connected to the dining room and to the downstairs floor used as cellar, store-room and laundry. The ground floor is also provided with a dining room and a small bathroom. Through the ancient staircase it is possible to reach the first floor composed by a double bedroom, a bathroom and a study, potentially adaptable to a further bedroom. The second floor, the last one, is totally used as sleeping area, consisting of a main bedroom with private bathroom and a further double bedroom. The same staircase leads to a wonderful terrace set among the roofs, from which yom may enjoy a marvellous view on the centre of the city. Condition The property has been finely restored taking care of any details, from the planning of the space to the choice of the materials, recovering the original ones if possible, as the ancient cotto floors and the stone fire-place of the dining room. The other floors are of handmade cotto as to the living area and wooden listone as to the sleeping area. The eighteenth century frescos of the nave have been restored, while the central picture over the fire-place has been purpose built. Outdoor space Even if it is usually quite difficult to find an outdoor space in any historical centres, the Church includes a typical terrace of about 10 sqm, where you can sunbathe, fitted with a barbecue to enjoy summer "al fresco dining". Usage and potential The Church is a small precious stone inserted in the jewel of Trevi, a private dwelling perfect for those who love living in a relaxing place, where it’s possible to walk to the theatre. La Chiesa is also one of the places of the historical memory of Trevi and to live here means carrying on the history begun four hundreed years ago or .....maybe even more.
