The villa
is located 340 m
uphill on the Monte Orello close to Portoferraio, between pine trees, cork- and
holm-oaks. It was built in the sixties by an American architect for a British
Lord as his summer residence. The design is generous with large living spaces, terraces
on various levels and a magnificent view of the surrounding park and the sea.
The adjacent protected forest provides wonderful opportunities for walks,
cycling or horse riding. Beaches and shopping centers are within a few minutes
car drive. There is also a golf course nearby.
The house
has five bedrooms each with a bath, a large living room on the ground floor
with an open fire place, dining area with access to a partly covered terrace
with a pizza oven. The upper part of the house, where three of the bedrooms
are, has an entrance of its own and has been arranged with a small kitchen, so
it can be used as a separate apartment. There is also a small apartment down
the garden with a bedroom, bath, kitchenette and a large living area which has
been used as an artist’s study. A pool
with a small cottage and WC is located on an opening 100 m downhill and can be
reached over a shady path through the woods.
The villa
is well equipped with it’s own water supply from a well and a large cistern,
but it is also connected to the communal water supply system. It has central
gas-heating. Floors in the house are terracotta and parquet in the bedrooms.
The house
is well kept and has been inhabited by the present owners permanently over the
last ten years.
Elba
island offers many possibilities for recreation and sports: tennis, golf, horse
riding, fishing, diving, surfing and sailing and there are also schools for
most of these disciplines. Elba is known for
it’s many small protected bays and diverse beaches.
